Dear Senator______:
It is my understanding that, upon being sworn in as an U.S. Senator, you swore an oath to
"... support and defend the Constitution." I know that you take this solemn obligation very seriously, indeed refusal to carry out the defense of the Constitution in the conduct of your senatorial duties, constitutes the willful forfeiture of the legal entitlement to the legislative office to which you were elected. Accordingly, should you intend to vote for a health care bill which includes a mandate for all uninured adults to purchase health care insurance, please tell me what provision of the Constitution you cite as the authority for this compulsory expenditure by individuals.
Additionally, can you refer me to any existing federal statutes which mandate the purchase of market available services by an individual or be fined and possibly incarcerated. Thank you for your advice on this matter of great concern.
Sincerely,
Hope this exemplar is helpful.
