Well guess what loyal listeners, that hypothetical apprehension scenario just became all too real - a Christmas miracle, if you will. Traveling not by sleigh but by NW airlines, Nigerian citizen and bomber, Umar Farouk, was apprehended in the skies near Detroit airport. He is an enemy combatant who attacked us - a terrorist act of war on western civilization. He is not an American citizen, so he has no constitutional protections in his custodial treatment after this apprehension.
Nonetheless, Umar has been charged by the Department of Justice with a criminal act in a federal civilian court, he has lawyered up (and naturally shut up), refusing to be interviewed by government anti-terrorist agents. Had Umar been immediately taken to a Michigan military base, he could have been interrogated continuously until he disclosed his knowledge of other pending operations to attack and kill Americans.
So, Mr. Holder - how does having no access and no information from Umar make us all so much safer than those Bush guys did with their secretly harsh interrogations, which lead to the stopping of many terrorist attacks on Americans? Just asking...
